The purpose of this unit is to explore how humans impact the world around us. Specifically we are going to look at how our energy production methods impact the world around us.

Moving forward, the entire world is shifting from non-renewable to renewable resources. Renewable continue to become cheaper and cheaper, especially as the environmental cost of non-renewable resources is being factored in.

For this unit you are going to put together a researched argument for one of the following renewable energy sources:

  • Solar
  • Wind
  • Geothermal
  • Hydroelectric

Your final project can be ANYTHING that presents your research in a professional manner. Options include PowerPoint, paper, poster, video, etc. Whatever you do MUST be professional!

Your rubric for your final project is as follows:

  • Student can defend their energy choice using at least 2 different sources that are quality and have variety.
  • Student works-cited page contains 4 or more errors and is not formatted correctly.
  • Student project explains how their energy source works,
  • Student has 2 reasons why their energy source is the best for the future.
  • Each reason has 2 supporting pieces of evidence

  • Student can defend their energy choice using at least 3 different sources that are quality and have variety.
  • Student works cited page contains 2-3 errors and is formatted correctly.
  • Project contains requirements of Level 2 AND
  • Student project summarizes the reasons both in an introduction, which contains a thesis statement, and conclusion.
  • Has 3 reasons why their energy source is the best for the future.
  • Each reason has 2 supporting pieces of evidence.

  • Student can defend their energy choice using at least 5 different sources that are quality and have variety.
  • Student works cited page contains no errors and is formatted correctly.
  • Project contains requirements of Level 3 AND
  • Student project contains at least 2 counterarguments about why their energy source is not the best and uses at least 2 facts to refute each counterargument.
